The History of Ferris'

Ferris' opened its doors on the 4th of February, 1991. Its first name was Ferris' Oyster and Burger Bar Restaurant. This name embodied the simplicity of their early menu: a focus on oysters and simple grill food. Although this proved to be popular, it was soon discovered that that was not enough. Ferris' menu has greatly expanded and consequently, a name change seemed appropriate. Today, Ferris' Grill features a diverse array of fine foods.

Tom and Sandy started work on the restaurant in November of 1990. With no furnace, a limited budget, and electrical problems, everything seemed impossible at the time. With a lot of luck and the help of many people, the job of opening the restaurant was accomplished. To those who have an interest, this was the year the GST started. As a reflection of this, customer spending was not at pre-GST levels. Over the time the restaurant has been renovated, repaired, painted and decorated to give it a comfortable, warm atmosphere.

On October 13, 2005, Ferris' Oyster Bar opened "Upstairs." Here at 31 feet above sea level, we have a large sofa section for casual get-togethers, traditional intimate dining, and a large black granite oyster bar. The room is also available for private bookings.

In the last few years, we have brought on Dave Craggs as our chef and partner. He has taken the kitchen to new levels and the future looks to be equally promising. In addition to Dave, our chef and partner, we have also brought on Andrew Morris as our partner and Operations Manager.
